Ours is one of the few remaining practices owned and run by the dentists for the patients. It is not a part of a corporate chain of practices driven by profit, nor does it have to run according to the rules and regulations of insurance companies such as Bupa.
The building has recently undergone full refurbishment and we use only the newest and most advanced equipment currently on the market including digital computerised x-rays, top of the range root filling and implant equipment, ‘airflow’ tooth polishers, Composite Bonding, Digital Smile Design, Boutique tooth whitening, Invisalign and Quick Straight Teeth Adult Orthodontic appliances.
Simon is a ‘local lad’ who has grown up in the area before graduating from the University of Sheffield in 2006. His first job was working in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, where he worked until December 2007 when he purchased Clavell- Bate & Nephew Dental Surgeons along with his Uncle, John Clavell-Bate. Since qualifying Simon has continued his dental education by studying advanced cosmetic treatments. He then spent a further two years studying orthodontics (Braces) part time. These along with many other smaller courses allow Simon to devise treatment plans using a full range of techniques from simple white fillings right up to full rehabilitations and smile makeovers using implants, braces, whitening, veneers and crowns. Simon spends four days per week working at the practice and is a true family dentist treating four generations of some Whalley families. Simon focuses very highly on patient care and is very good with nervous patients. He also makes sure that every one of his patients has his personal mobile number in case of an out of an hours emergency.
When not at work Simon enjoys spending quality time with his family, his wife Elaine who is also a dentist and his two sons Freddie and Pip. He enjoys running, mountain biking, music, reading, good company and has a passion for cars and all things motorsport.

I qualified from Sheffield University in 2005 and worked in Nottinghamshire before moving over to Lancashire when marrying Simon.
I enjoy all aspects of dentistry, especially treating children, which was the focus of charity work that I undertook as a student in the Cook Islands several years ago.
Since qualifying I completed a one year post graduate course in advanced restorative dentistry learning advanced techniques in fields such as advanced crown and bridge work and cosmetic fillings. At the end of this course I was awarded a special commendation for the high level of skill and understanding demonstrated during the course.
As Simon’s wife I work part time in the practice and outside of work our two sons and black Labrador keep us busy.
Since moving to Whalley in 2007 I have completely fallen in love with its many charms. We live locally and our boys attend the local school. We try to support local businesses and events and are often seen out and about enjoying dog walks.
There is nowhere nicer to both live and work.
Adam is originally from Blackpool and qualified from Cardiff university in 2013. He completed his final training year at Clavell bate and nephew in 2013 before starting to work at a practice back in Blackpool. Since then, Adam has completed multiple courses including The Chris Orr Cosmetic Dentistry & Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry 1 year course, Invisalign, Quick Straight Teeth and SmileFast. Adam has also worked in the emergency dental service for Blackpool for multiple years.
Adam re-joined the team at Clavell bate and nephew February 2021 and has been working here ever since.
When not at work Adam is a keen footballer and plays for Anchorsholme Football club as well as multiple 5-a-side teams.

Special interest in Periodontics
Dominic is our resident gum expert, with a special interest in diagnosing and treating all forms of periodontal disease. He holds a Master’s degree in Periodontology and has the expertise to help patients with advanced or persistent gum problems, especially those whose condition hasn’t improved with standard treatment.
He accepts referrals from across the region and is always happy to offer advice and support to colleagues dealing with tricky periodontal cases. Dominic is known for his friendly, down-to-earth approach and his commitment to delivering care that’s thorough, thoughtful, and never rushed.
When he’s not in the practice, Dominic can usually be found outdoors. He is a keen fell runner and climber who’s always chasing the next adventure.

Emily began her dental career as a dental nurse, a role in which she excelled for over 10 years. In 2006 Emily decided to further her training at Liverpool Dental Hospital where she qualified as a therapist in 2008.
In her spare time Emily enjoys swimming and socialising with her friends and family.
Kelvin qualified as a dental therapist in 2004 and joined the practice as a dental therapist in 2012, he has several years experience in both NHS and private practices.
In his spare time Kelvin likes riding his Motorbike and spending time with his family and his dog , Arlo.
Qualified as a Dental Hygiene & Therapist from the University of Liverpool. Charlotte is a great addition to our clinical team, allowing us to add more clinics to facilitate our patients. From a hygiene perspective, Charlotte helps patients to stabilise and maintain their oral health. From a therapy perspective, Charlotte deals with aspects of adult restorative dentistry and children’s dentistry. Charlotte’s friendly and bubbly approach to dentistry ensures patients leave her clinic with a smile on their face.
My name is Kate Collier and I am the Practice Manager. My job is to ensure we tailor make your practice membership and experience by coordinating our team of dentists and hygienists to suit your dental needs and lifestyle. I am dedicated to patient care and am always on hand to answer any queries you may have, I can usually be found at my desk or helping out on reception.
I Qualified as a dental nurse in 2004 and have over a decade of nursing experience.
I joined the practice in 2013 and have since gained further qualifications in customer service and team leading. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family, walking my dogs and horse riding.
I joined the team in November 2013, and I gained my national certificate in Dental nursing in 2011, after achieving a 2:1 BSc in Applied Biology in 2008. In 2012 I achieved my certificate in Radiography.
In my spare time I love to walk my Chocolate Labrador George, sewing and baking.
I qualified with Training 2000 in Blackburn at the beginning of 2021. Previous to this I went to university at Huddersfield University to train as an adult nurse however decided this was no longer the path for me and joined the practice to train as a dental nurse in 2019.
In my spare time I like to spend time with my boyfriend and my family.
Hi my name is Rebecca Boden, I gained my national diploma in dental nursing in 2019, after working as a bridal makeup artist for 4 years. I am extremely proud to say that I’m a nurse here at Clavell-Bate. I enjoy all aspects with dentistry especially working with complex treatments and being part of the patients journey.
In my spare time I love spending time with my family, mountain biking and travelling.
I qualified as a dental nurse in 2009 with Training 2000 in Blackburn. Since then I have gone onto progress within dentistry to Team leading, Lead Nurse, Practice co-ordinator and finally practice manager. In 2019, I decided to change the path I was on and return to dental nursing with Clavell Bate.
In my spare time I like to travel and spend time with my fur babies Oscar & Loki, and my husband James.
I qualified as a dental nurse in 2013 at Manchester Dental Hospital, and have experience in both general dentistry and orthodontics. I also have further qualifications in Dental Radiography.
When I am not in work I spend time with my daughter who keeps me very busy!
I started at the practice in October 2022 as an apprentice dental nurse and I recently qualified in May 2024 after studying at Training 2000 in Blackburn. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and boyfriend.
My name is Samantha and started my career in dentistry at the age of 16 after leaving school when I began to train as a dental nurse. I qualified in 1993 at Manchester Dental Hospital gaining my National Certificate and I have been a dental nurse for over 3 decades (yes I am as old as dust) I have a further dental qualification, foundation degree, in Oral Health Education which I graduated in 2005. I joined the Clavell-Bate team in 2014 and went onto gain further qualifications in implant placement in 2018. I regularly attend courses to keep me up to date with all that is dentistry. I am the friendly voice and smiley face that will greet you everyday here at Clavell-Bate.
In my spare time I enjoy doing fun things with my gorgeous fur babies (3 Lhasa Apso dogs). I like to keep fit and also like socialising with family and friends.
